Frametastic

Have you thought about putting your edible photo on an edible frame on your wedding cake? Or birthday cake? Or whatever cake you can think of?
Well...this is how it will look like.

This delicate frame is made from royal icing...I am sure some of your relatives or friends would be happy to munch you...ha,ha,ha!
Such a tedious process but the outcome is mind blowing! This particular piece was done during my three day workshop at The Dessert Table, Mutiara Damansara under the coaching of Puan Farida.

The Architect

Finally ....I built something. And it is edible! I built a gazebo...a sugar gazebo. It was made from royal icing...a very delicate one.

This three tier cake was done under the coaching of Puan Farida from The Dessert Table. It was a 3 day workshop I went. A very fun and interesting workshop. I learned some new royal icing techniques and tips from the coach.

The yellow cake with white details looks regal in my opinion. What is yours?

Princess Cake

It is every girls dream...to be a princess. That is why wedding dresses, wedding cakes and decorations are important to them. Wedding day is the closest they get to being a princess.
This cake has all the shine and bling to be one unique royal-like cake. It was purple but looks whitish under the strong lighting at the reception hall. The bottom tier is chocolate cake, the middle tier is strawberry-vanilla cake and fruit cake on the top.
The cake was replicated from the photo emailed by the bride.

A tribute to all cancer patients

Photos of wedding cakes will be one of the evidences of a marriage. They will be around till eternity unless they are destroyed of course but we humans will be gone from this world anytime, anywhere.
The bride and the groom were my seniors from school. They were married sometime in 2010 but sadly the groom passed away early this year due to cancer. I have visited him at the hospital a few times...and I really admire the love and dedication of the wife. He...was always jovial and happy to see his friends. She....was so calm, I was not. I didn't stay long each time because I know my tear gates aren't that strong...not a good thing to do in front of them I guess.

Does any of you know anybody diagnosed with cancer? Our polluted air and lifestyle perhaps contributed to the rise of cancer occurrence.

“THE CURIOUS CASE of Pink and Green BUTTONS”

30 April 2011

Luckily the pastels pink and green buttons did not gets smaller….they stayed cute and sweet.

Had to use my imagination and whatever tools I have to create different button styles. My daughter helped me making these buttons…ha..ha…my hired ‘in-house’ helper! Hey…she got paid you know.

Photo on the left is taken by my son using his Canon EOS1000D whereas the one on the right by me, of course using my compact Sony camera.

Pink and Brown? Weird?

16 April 2011

Ah well, I didn’t think pink and brown matches until I did this cake. It looks so classy and elegant! At least I think so…don’t know about you. I guess it depends on what shade of brown you used. I spend almost an hour at the store trying to figure out the right match.

She is a mother now!

Ain just gave birth to a baby girl last week. Congratulation dear!
These were the cake and cupcakes I did for her wedding  last year. How time flies!

24 April 2010

The ultimate flower basket....I used all store bought flowers...since this is less than 36-hour work, from baking till the finish product; like this one you see in this photo.

These were the cupcakes they brought for the wedding celebration on the groom's side.
Less is more!!!

Bear Loves Honey, I Love You

4 December 2010

One quiet night:
" Hello kak, I want 3D bear cake 5'' high, 8''x 6'' base"....a call from a lady cracked through my phone. " And I want it to be bride and groom bears, wearing tuxedo and white gown with veil", she added.
" Haa...errr, can I call you back in 10 minutes ". Oh my gosh...I never make 3D bear cake before...let alone ones wearing tuxedo & gown.

Breathe in , breathe out....."It's a challenge....you can do it", Me, talking to myself.

10 minutes later....
" Ok...I do it for you...royal icing and fondant decoration" , I told her but my palms were sweating ( Anxious? Nervous? Maybe...)

So....after mixing, coloring, rolling, cutting, squeezing and...a lot more actions, this is my completed mission...AND Yeah, I did it! I am so proud of the Bears. What do you think ?

Thanks Ika fr http://cupcake-car.blogspot.com/ for the bear pan. Appreciate it!

20 November 2010

Ha..Ha, Ha...I am talking GOLD, but not real GOLD however. I made these Gold flowers...for a Gold theme wedding cake.
That's the "RICH" I am talking about,  though I wish I can be rich in a true sense.
Well, we human are never satisfied with what we have, right?

From Terengganu...with love

30 March 2010

She viewed this on this blog :

LUXURIOUS

She wants something similar, so I came up with this :

ROMANTIC

Then she wants more, so I came up with this :

SWEET BOUQUET

And this :

SUMMER

"She"...is my dear friend Dr. Rozy from Terengganu. The gift boxes were delivered to her friends here in Kuala Lumpur.
Me...grateful for the internet & cell phones...and bank transfer too of course!

Back to Class 4

18 March 2010

Yeah...finally, I completed all four Wilton Method Basic Courses!
I learned a lot...tips, recipes, techniques, using tools & a lot more.
I made new friends .....with same interest, we bonded and we shared.

The last of the troops:
(Unfortunately our usual WMI, Nahdzah cannot make it. WMI Sharifah, her replacement for the day)

Fantasy flowers, carnations, daises, sugar box and draping...these are the few that we learned

Pink tones flowers, pink 'handkerchief ' style cover, pink border, pink base....so many pink! Not my favorite color though. But somehow those tiny white ribbons & dots balance out the total pink look....my thoughts anyway! Don't know if you have the same opinion!

" Three Weddings & a Birthday "

13 March 2010

Wedding season again...three wedding cakes and one birthday cake...kept me on my feet for a few days but that also meant thicker purse. Yeah!

FIRST:

These cupcakes were a gift from me & my sister for our niece's Alia  Red & White wedding. "Selamat Pengantin Baru "

SECOND :

A cake & cupcakes tier for Shafriza's sister's wedding. Previously, I made two wedding ceremonial gift cakes for the "Nikah" ceremony. Remember the "Roses...Blue & Pink ,The Sequel?
I tried my hand on fantasy flowers I learned in my Wilton class, and the outcome was really great...away from my normal roses.

My son helped me make the cake stand...quite nice huh?

The cake is Strawberry Bakewell Cake. Doesn't it make your mouth watery?!

THIRD :

S.O.S. distress call from my friend, Ros, all the way from Klang. 14 hours...that's all the time I had before delivery time!
Actually...it was way way less since I have to complete the above cakes too.
Luckily, she has the cake and the design ready, so less work for me. I only needed to cover, stack and decorate the cake...my favorite part in the whole process.
Love the outcome..though this one does not follow Mr Cowell's advice...exactly like the printed image she e-mailed me.

A BIRTHDAY:

Edible image on a cake...the simplest decoration. Thank God for this new technology. In times like this, this is heaven sent!

Roses...Blue & Pink, The Sequel

3 March 2010

Another two wedding ceremonial gift cakes...one blue theme & the other pink theme.
The Sequel...requested by the same person but this time the decoration are more elaborate.
The ideas are from one of Wilton Wedding Cake book but we ( me & Shafriza, the customer) added some personal touch to them. Like what Simon Cowell always said  in American Idol "take it & make it your own"

Gold Rush

26 February 2010

How do I make gold color fondant??? Hmmm....how? how?
Do some research...do some queries...experiment ?! I did....
First I dusted some edible gold dust on white fondant , Ooo...didn't get the desired result. Then I mixed some color into fondant based on what I read on a sugarcraft page...not quite the gold I want, no glittery effect!
Searching mode on...creative mode on.....
TaDaaaaa...finally, yellow or lite orange colored fondant dusted with edible gold dust...and this is the result :

Me & the Chocolate Factory !

14 February 2010

Willy Wonka will surely love this cake...Chocolate cake covered with Chocolate fondant and decorated with white chocolate & chocolate tones roses. Even the leaves are made from chocolate fondant!

Since the wedding is in Sungai Petani, Kedah, I brought the unassembled cakes to my parents' house in Alor Setar. My mum sort of freaked out when she saw two extremely dark chocolate square 'blobs' in her kitchen...."Gelapnya..." her exact remark was. However, her expression changes when she saw the completed cake. That look on her face is what I will treasure...forever!
Here is the bride & groom in Chocolate & Gold color wedding attire and my mum finally understood my creations.

In all of the wedding cake, hope is the sweetest of plums. - Douglas Jerrold

12 February 2010

This two tier cake went from KL to North of Peninsular Malaysia...Rantau Panjang to be exact. Wow...the distance it travelled...luckily it survived the journey and the fact that the top cake is a dummy also helps.

It was made for my brother-in-law's sister-in-law's wedding...Haa..confusing?! My brother-in-law's wife's younger sister's wedding....Haa?! Ahh...forget it. It doesn't matter...what matter is it's my creation and I enjoyed the decoration process.

A marbled pink drape around the cake & dusted with 'pearl' edible dust. A new decoration tool I discovered...edible dust in a rainbow of colors.

Roses...Blue & Pink

11 February 2010

This order came suddenly...but somehow I manage to fit them into my schedule. Two 'simple'    ( the blue one is but the pink...not so) wedding ceremonial gift cakes....Pink theme & Blue theme.
